Red Hook has always ...Not trying to chase them out. Red Hook has always been a mixed use neighborhood with industry, commercial and residential uses existing side by side. I'm not trying to get rid of industry, just trying to work towards the point where we can all co-exist side by side without killing each other - metaphorically or otherwise.
The first time I ever wrote anything about our neighborhood, not long after committing to living in Red Hook over 8 years ago, the subject matter was about my opinion that residential and industrial activity should be able to co-exist down here, without the adversarial attitudes that have prevailed recently, with industry pushing back against any residential development, and vice versa.
In my blog I've not only been trying to draw attention to the issues - some may call them problems - created by this co-existence where dense residential populations abut and are often enmeshed with industrial use areas, but I've also been trying to point to already proven and established solutions for these problems. Cold ironing / shore power for the ships, a clean truck program - something that is being pushed by no less than Rep. Jerry Nadler, one of the strongest advocates for a healthy working waterfront - truck routes and other congestion abating measures, a balanced approach to development so that small businesses, store owners, and yes - residents - can also benefit from whatever comes to our neighborhood.
If these solutions were put into place, wouldn't it make our neighborhood a more prosperous and healthy place - for everyone?A Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00454082017430418246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5656222656630280383.post-72422845952700104232009-07-26T11:57:07.602-04:002009-07-26T11:57:07.602-04:00move to an industrial neighborhood, then try to ch...move to an industrial neighborhood, then try to chase out the current tenants because they are industrial....

ENOUGH...move out of Red Hook if you can't take the industry.

a non industrial resident of Red Hook neighbors (residential)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
